The Chinese Embassy and the Vanuatu National Novel Coronavirus Taskforce held a Joint Briefing on fighting COVID-19

On February 19th,Chinese Embassy in Vanuatu and the Vanuatu National Novel Coronavirus Taskforce held a joint briefing on fighting the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Chinese Ambassador Zhou Haicheng,Mr Donald Pelam, Chairman of the Vanuatu Novel Coronavirus National Taskforce and Acting Director of Department of Public Health and other members on the Taskforce shared information about the fight against COVID-19 and recommendations for the public.

In his remarks, Ambassador Zhou said, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, the Chinese government has put the protection of people's lives, health and safety as its top priority, and the Chinese people are united as one and fighting to contain and mitigate this epidemic together. The effectiveness of China response has proved that the COVID-19 epidemic can be contained, mitigated and overcome,he added.

Zhou appreciated Vanuatu government and people from all walks of life in Vanuatu for their valuable support to China particularly which,he said, the Chinese people will bear in mind. As China battles the disease together with Vanuatu, the friendship and trust between our two countries will be strengthened and deepened,Zhou said.

Zhou emphasized his confidence, saying that with the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, the concerted efforts of the Chinese people, and the wide support of the international community, China will overcome the epidemic at an early date.

Mr Pelam expounded on measures taken by Vanuatu Government, appreciated China's effective measures against COVID-19, and emphasized the good signs,including that a big number of infected patients have been cured. He reminded the Vanuatu public of the importance of seeking information only from reputable news sources with clear, ethical standards for reporting and called upon Ni-Vanuatu citizens not to engage in discrimination against Chinese nationals or the Chinese community in Vanuatu as keeping good relationships with friends is Vanuatu's culture and tradition and this makes Vanuatu a happiest place on earth.

A detailed presentation was given at the briefing, which demonstrated China's speed, effectiveness and open, transparent and responsible attitude in the battle against COVID-19.

Journalists from VBTC,Daily Post, FM107 and BUZZFM,officials from Vanuatu Ministry of Foreign Affairs,International Cooperation and External Trade,Ministry of Education and Training,Ministry of Health and Department of Immigration and Passport Services,and representatives of parents of Ni-Van students studying in China attended the joint briefing.
